KewNLC student wins Victorian Learn Local Young Pre-accredited Learner Award

Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre is extremely excited and proud of Rory Madden who has been awarded the 2019 Victorian Learn Local Young Pre-accredited Learner Award. Rory has been learning Horticulture and Carpentry in pre-accredited programs at KewNLC and is on a pathway in Transition Education at Swinburne University.

Down Syndrome Swimming Australia (DSSA) National Swimming Championships

Brisbane turned on beautiful weather for the 5th Down Syndrome Swimming Australia (DSSA) National Swimming Championships on 23-25th August, 2019. The attractive outdoor 50 metre pool provided a perfect setting for the Championships. We left Victoria in single digit degree weather and thoroughly enjoyed the novelty of the 27-28 degree weekend!

Recently DSV caught up with Julie Fisher, who has recently released her first book The Unexpected Journey: Embracing the Beauty of Disability. Julie is mother to three boys, and stepmother to one daughter. One of her sons, Darcy, has Down syndrome.

Healthy and Happy: A Documentary

Recently DSV interviewed Elizabeth Callinan who, together with award winning Director Sarah Barton (Defiant Lives​) is developing a film, Happy and Healthy, which will "offer a much needed contribution to the ethical discussions which must occur in parallel with advancing genetic science". Lizzie is a Melbourne based freelance writer with a professional background in social policy. She has a daughter with Mosaic Down syndrome.
