Education Manager and Education Consultant

Down Syndrome Victoria is the state-wide peak membership organisation representing individuals with Down syndrome and their families. We currently have two positions available and are looking for committed and passionate registered teachers to join our Education Support Service (ESS).

The ESS is a professional development program for schools and teachers, with specific focus on a student with Down syndrome at the school. Specific training will be provided through the Down Syndrome Education International course – Effective education for children with Down syndrome in school.

The ESS consultants work collaboratively with schools teachers and support staff of students with Down syndrome, to provide consultancy, information and resources to assist in successful outcomes in learning, wellbeing and behaviour. The ESS program also contributes to the strengthening and partnership between the parents of children with Down syndrome and their school environment.

Education Manager – part time 3 days (22.8 hours per week)

Selection Criteria
  • Education qualifications and minimum of 10 years experience in mainstream or specialist education
  • Proven management skills and experience, with demonstrated ability to lead and support a team of
    education consultants
  • Detailed knowledge of the Victorian education systems and curriculum
  • Extensive knowledge of teaching students with additional needs, working with a modified curriculum,
    individual learning plans and student support groups
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to work with a diverse range of people in a person centred,
    sensitive manner

Education Consultant – part time

The Education Consultant (in a visiting teacher capacity) will assist in the delivery of the Education Support Service into schools in Melbourne, which aims to equip teachers to meet the educational and social needs of students with Down syndrome through the provision of information and resources.

Selection Criteria
  • Current teaching registration and a minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  • Strong commitment to inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities within mainstream schools o Experience teaching students with Down syndrome or intellectual disability
  • Detailed knowledge of the Victorian education systems and curriculum
  • Part time and or contractor position available (20 to 24hrs per week) with access to salary packaging
